Usually if there is that one player I would 'pound the table for', it's largely because I see a glaring hole in the starting lineup, and I see a particular draft prospect who projects to be a high-level star at that position. Think B.J. Raji in 2009: they were converting to the 3-4, they really had NOBODY who could play NT in that type of defense, and Raji was projecting as a super high-level talent. Or for that matter, Broderick Jones a couple years back - again, they had NOBODY to play LT (I knew Bahktiari was done - the team just hadn't admitted it to themselves yet, and they had ZERO behind him), and Jones was projected to be a perennial Pro-Bowl type (at least) at the position.
This year, overall, I really don't see that absolute, glaring hole in the roster. Sure, there are spots that definitely could use an upgrade over last year's performance (LT, Interior DL, Edge, CB, WR), but I don't see that one obvious "THEY HAVE NO NFL-LEVEL STARTER" at that position.
So along the lines of what you were saying about it being a 'target-rich' environment, I posted yesterday that there are about 6 different positions they could target with that 1st round pick, and I'd go, "Yeah, that makes sense". There isn't that one guy who I'm absolutely all-in on; really, there isn't anyone in particular who I'm even 'hoping for'. There are a few spots (QB, RB, LB, TE) that would make me go "God, WHY???", but other than that, I'm really just excited to see who they get. It seems that, as you say, there will be a LOT of options, at positions that could definitely use some help.
For me, it's definitely a different 'vibe' than some prior drafts - that's for sure.
