So currently, if you take those original numbers, and counting those who 'might be by year end', we have:
QB: 1
RB: 1
TE: 1
OL: 1
LB: 1
S: 1
That's six guys.
BUT, I do think there's a lot more 'potential' than that:
WR: 2 (adding 2 of Watson, Wicks, Golden)
I would say Watson when healthy fits into that category - his combination of size/speed is rare. But he just can't stay healthy.
Several who were on last year's team 'could be', but for various reasons haven't gotten there yet - Wicks is the most obvious candidate from last year's team if you look how wide open he frequently was. There's a good chance that with another year, he'll get there. There's also a very good chance that Golden will be there at this time next year. So from those three, I'm adding two to our count.
OL: 3 (adding 2 - Jenkins and Morgan)
I agree that as of this moment, Tom is the only candidate. But I think that by the end of this year, we could see Jenkins joining that group at C, along with Morgan at either LT or RG. There is potential for that group overall to be much improved IMO.
DL/Edge: 3 (adding 3 of Wyatt, Sorrell, Oliver, and Gary)
I think Wyatt still has some ceiling left to get there; there are also the rookies Sorrell and Oliver who could make some real noise down the road. Gary could be also if he could get some more consistent help from the rest of the group - he can't do everything by himself. So, we'll assume 2 of Wyatt, Sorrell and Oliver actually come through, and that's enough help that Gary also reaches his full potential and gets there as well.
LB: 2 (adding one of Walker and Simmons) - I'm saying Cooper definitely is already, and Quay Walker is close if he could learn to be more consistent and stay healthy. Simmons is also a dark horse candidate here. Overall, could may be the strongest position group on the team.
CB: 0
The weakest position on the team by far IMO - I don't see anyone even close.
S: 2 (Add Williams) - I think Williams by year end will be pushing for that rating as well.
So if everything comes true 100% - if every 'hope' I've noted actually comes through - they would end up with 15 such players, listed as follows:
Love
Jacobs
Kraft
(Two of Watson, Wicks, Golden)
Tom
Jenkins
Morgan
(Three of Wyatt, Sorrell, Oliver, Gary)
E. Cooper
(One of Q. Walker, Simmons)
McKinney
Williams
15 total players; the only position group completely unrepresented would be CB. Not half bad, really. Realize, that's the 'pie in the sky' analysis of everyone who I think 'might' have the potential to be top 10 at their position actually reaching that level.
If you like seasons where you see a lot of young, talented players taking a step up and coming into their own, then 2025 is your year if you're a Packer fan!
