One thing is for sure, the Packers have a pretty deep OL room.
After that, there's a lot of uncertainty with new guys, old guys and position switches.
From what I've read and gathered, I think this is what the Packers want to have for their 2- deep OL this season.
(Of course Competition will be the Decider)
Left Tackle: Jordan Morgan, Rasheed Walker
Left Guard Aaron Banks, Sean Rhyan, other
Center: Elgton Jenkins, Sean Rhyan/Jacob Monk
Right Guard: Anthony Belton, Sean Rhyan
Right Tackle: Zach Tom, Anthony Belton
If anybody busts a chinstrap and needs to come out, I think this is how it shakes out. For example, if Zach Tom needs to change his cleats, then Belton slides over to RT and Sean Rhyan comes in at RG.
This is based on the famous Sitton comment from years ago where he said:
"switching sides as an OL is like learning to wipe your ass with the opposite hand. Messy"
That's why I think Belton will eventually earn that RG1 and RT2 spot, keeps him and his footwork on the right side of the line.
Gute went BIG at LG, OC and RG and said they want to improve their ability to really move people. Plus you've got Jacobs who is best as an inside runner
I think Sean Rhyan is fine at OG and OK at OC - so Rhyan can be a vet back up for all 3 IOL.
Over at LT, I think the Packers would like to see Jordan Morgan win the spot and if its even close, he probably gets the nod. I don't think GB wants to give Walker a 2nd deal and I also believe they believe in Morgan based on their comments.
One of Morgan's issues coming out of college was his handwork wasn't fully developed - and one reason for that is he was taught to punch 2nd.
( The Packers OTs were 2nd punchers too)
When an LT punches 2nd he has to wait on the DE to throw hands. The challenge is that things happen faster in the NFL and the DE's know how to wait to throw their hands as well. Its quite the chess match
That's part of why GB was happy to play Morgan inside at RG - things happen sooooo much faster inside than out- it was great opportunity for him to improve in that area. RG was also his best chance of seeing playing time in 2024, but you get the ancillary benefit of faster, better handwork.
There's currently 15 OL guys on the 90 man roster, so there will be competition to pare it down to the final 9
We'll see what happens in August, the coaches will move these guys all over early on, but then they'll settle in by end of Aug.
Gonna be fun to watch it all.
