"Nobody's job is on the line". Really? Lafleur and Gute both have only two more years left on their contracts. Also, they've been here since 2019. How many more "one and done" seasons would it take BEFORE their jobs are on the line? And is it really so crazy that Policy might want his own hires in those spots?

And you say Policy has no input. He has PLENTY of input - in fact, he's 100% RESPONSIBLE for making that call on both the Coach AND GM. So I think it's entirely plausible that he specifically said something to the effect of "early postseason exits won't cut it any longer".

For that matter, Policy has been known as the incoming guy for at least a year now. Do you really think it's just a coincidence that, in the year he officially takes over, Gutekunst suddenly says "It's time to start competing for championships (his exact words)"? and that there is suddenly a shift in the general attitude/energy around 1265?

Maybe, maybe not. But I think it's entirely plausible that this shift is coming from top down...

Regardless, it's great for the team. They are off to a start they haven't had since, well, I'm not sure when. And I keep coming back to one thing: for all the greatness they had at QB since 1992, if you look at the years they actually won Super Bowls, those years both had one thing in common: the GB defense was top of the league. Don't know if they're THAT good yet, but they sure look to be headed that way...
