The only one that seem to be doing non-standard contract things with their re-signed head coach right now appears to be Jerry Jones.
Letting Mike McCarthy enter into the last year of his contract and then not re-signing them because they disagree over amount of years. Sounded like Jerry Jones demanded a very short term contract and McCarthy wasn't having it, and then Jones, seemingly left uncertain about what to do next just signed the offensive coordinator.
Some teams, such as Panthers, Lions and Bears signed a NEW head coach to longer than normal... but that's because
1) Panthers had a new (stupid) owner, who was trying to steal the Giants head coach option and gave some coach a 7 year deal which they totally regretted and have hired a head coach or two since.
2) Lions needed a long term rebuild and to get a quality head coach, felt they needed to, and possibly did need to, sign a coach to a long term deal so it wouldn't be just a quick turn around and fire, but know he had time to actually rebuild slowly.
3) Bears, the hot named coach supposedly had all the leverage as clearly the Bears wanted him as the hot name and get him from the Lions and rebuild their offense.
