Packers were already at 53, so they didn't need to cut anyone for the 53 man roster rule.



But it might have some similarities if the Packers are claiming someone off another teams practice squad... but if you do that, then the said player has to stay on your 53 man roster for 3 weeks.

And PS players can be called up for 3 weeks, so that's a possibility.


But at least the rumor is that the Packers plan on elevating Melton off the PS for week 1 and then signing him to the 53 man roster for week 2.

That would get around the vested veteran guarantee rule, but Melton is making less than $1.15 million ... that's an extremely low amount to risk potentially losing him just to potentially save a few dollars if you cut him sometimes during the season.
