anyone noticing any winter damage so far? my winter vegetable garden is badly freeze-burned. this has s been an incredibly cold/windy winter beginning first week of january here, as is much of the midwest and east. a large agave americana is pretty much mush, some of my other agaves are burned, some appear to be unscathed. a huge opuntia canacapa (only one of its names) was frozen and entire sections separated from the trunk which was almost 12 inches wide at ground level, having been there about 15 years. faxonianas look a bit burned but should be fine. my large tall aloifolias are LEANING to one side. anyone else noticed this characteristic? leaning is the major symptom shown here by aloilfolias relating to cold weather damage, and only in extremely cold winters. could be more very cold weather to come before spring........randy |
