Hello Tim, It is indeed amazing, that the the form under your Magnolia 'Edith Bogue' is blooming from one of the new rosettes from last year. This is a very rare "feature" from a Yucca. Our son Aleksander has one of my Yucca flaccida cross' in his place which bloom from the new rosettes for the third year in a row! But the flower stem are not as high as the first "original" first flowering rosette. Usually the fast ones bloom in their second year after flowering, and you know som never bloom at all.... My Yucca rupicola in the greenhouse is even stranger, it takes 2-3 years until a new rosette starts growing from the rhizomes and then another 2-3 years of growth for the new rosette until it will bloom. If you store the pollen in the refrigerator at about 5C, you will be able to keep the pollen alive for around a month. It's great that the "mail box form" is forming both rhizome pups and it continue to grow inside the old rosette as well, this makes propagation much easier. It will be interesting to see if the third form will grow like this also. I'm of for now, will have to drive Aleksander to "summer swimming camp" :-). Have a nice day Benny |
