Hello Yucca enthusiasts!
I just wanted to share some pics of my yuccas, the majority grown from seed, also the progress of hybrids which spent their first winter outdoors some barely 1 year old....
Yucca filamentosa x glauca X elata #1(17 months old): looked fine at first but then I saw something brown in the middle, I pulled quite a few rotten leaves, dead???
rotten
yucca elata x filamentosa #2: a beautiful hybrid looking more like elata with its thin leaves is now dead, it looked damaged at the beginning of april with some green in the middle but after a couple of weeks it turned 100% yellow, R.I.P.
completely dead, so sad...
yucca Flaccida (Poconos Mts, PA)x Filata X Filamentosa x Rostrata #1 (Tim's hybrid): early April this one looked damaged but with enough green left
and a few weeks later looking worse
yucca Filamentosa X Rostrata "mailbox" #1 (Tim's hybrid): this one looked ok at first
but after a few weeks...not so pretty, luckily as of now there's some new leaves coming out at the center, ouf!
yucca Flaccida (Poconos Mts, PA)x Filata X Filamentosa x Rostrata #2 (Tim's hybrid): looked damaged but OK in early April...
a few weeks later it got worse & I had to give it a good trim
Yucca rostrata 2.5 years old, grown from seed: it was protected with a rose cone, looked fine at first(early April) with only the tips showing a tiny bit of mold & yellowing.....
....but now it looks toast?! I didn't expect that from a protected plant, at least the center is still green.....I still have 2 rostratas in pots inside the house.
and now for some smiley moments....
yucca elata x filamentosa #1 this is my biggest & best looking, it was unprotected most of the time except when we had freezing rain, it was covered temporarily, almost intact except a few yellow leaf tips.
yucca (Filamentosa x Glauca) X Elata #2 & 3 : very minor damage but looking fine, what surprises me is that these were the last ones to be planted in the garden & also the youngest ones barely more than a year old now.
yucca (Filamentosa x Glauca) X Elata #2 (with 2 offshoots)
yucca (Filamentosa x Glauca) X Elata #3 (with 1 offshoot)
yucca baccata grown from seed, 2.5 years old, looking fine, it was protected with a "rose cone"
yucca glauca grown from seed 2.5 years old: my best looking glauca has never been protected and is looking mighty fine
yucca filamentosa color guard (store bought 3-4 years old): looks ok, I have a second one that looks bad so it had to be trimmed.
Yucca Arkansana X (filamentosa x glauca)-15 months old: looking good! it was unprotected but I tied the leaves together.
yucca Gloriosa Tenn. X Filamentosa x Rostrata #1 (Tim's hybrid): It was protected with a rose cone, no damage at all, no fungus! edge of leaves turned purple but as I experienced the same thing with my baccata its first spring, the leaves should turn back completely green by summer...
that's it for now, thanks for your time!
