Re: 15$ an hour fine, but.......... Elle
I'm not aware of a shortage of people to fill the spots..except perhaps in a small town where the lack of people in itself creates the problem. I have two college aged grandkids. One has done the flipping hamburgers stint and finally has found a spot where there is a chance to make decent money, offers training and is something they seem to like. Previously, it was a trail of short term menial jobs where longevity was never contemplated. The other found employment working in social situations. Summer camp work (paying nearly nothing) that led to self-employment as a private swimming instructor at $20/hr., working with an event coordinator at parties..decent money for a 4 hour participation but not reliable income, working a baby sitting job, getting a working parents kids up, fed and out to school every morning..all preferable to flipping hamburgers or stocking shelves. From what I know of businesses, a place will have a few reliable people they can depend on..paying a more liveable wage and fill in with the low paid transient, unskilled people. In some places, the low paying jobs are the only ones available but these unskilled jobs were never intended to be long term or the only means of support although to some folks they are.
