Forrest County

Robert, Pop, etc. Forrest county was formed from Perry County in 1908, and named for Gen. Forrest. Reconstruction was over and white Democrats were once again in control of Mississippi gov't. J.B. is correct about Forest, it's founding in 1860 and it's naming for the virgin forest it sat beside. All about timing and whose in control. Speaking of which, as a resident of Lamar Co., I've often wondered when the goofy liberals will realize they have a Confederate General county in Ms. and start a loud movement to have the named changed.

Above my reference to living in Lamar is because it sits against Forrest Co. In fact, Hattiesburg has annexed part of Lamar Co. Also, Lamar Co. is named for L.Q.C. Lamar was one of five gentlemen who meeting with Jefferson Davis in Jackson the week of the Secession Convention December 1860. In that meeting those six men determined that Mississippi would secede from the union. So...begs the question in this age of so-called political correctness... the name of Lamar Co. has not been a point of loud protest (over nothing).

David, Not too familiar with lamar county, but L.Q.C. Lamar was quite a important person in Miss. history. While he was an ardent Secessionist, an unrepentant Democrat, and had no good feeling about the reconstruction the South went through, he was both a U.S. congressman and Senator from Miss. And Grover Cleveland, the only democratic president elected between 1860 and 1912, appointed Lamar Sec. of the interior and later to the U.S. Supreme Court. And had Lamar been alive today he would be a fanatical Ole Miss fan!

Well, he'd be a Republican for sure. As for OM, I'm not sure. When they were rebels I'm sure you are right. However, now that OM is politically correct & seeking an identity, I'm not sure he would. His history isn't indicative of black bears nor land sharks (as if that were a real thing). But you are certainly right he would have been an OM Rebel back in the day when their teams and identity was one of great respect.

Just saw this David. I made that remark because he was a graduate of Ole Miss and later became a professor there. His home in his later life was at oxford. and he was the epitome of the gentlemanly Rebel.

Dead Democrats get caught voting all the time, but never a Republican...….I don't think that's fair!

J.B., as you know, traditions are difficult to break or change...dead voting is a long time tradition for the demos...at least to Cook County, Il. in 1960.

We moved to Forest in 1948. Mama had grown up on a farm in NW MO, of fiercely independent Scottish stock who loathed the very idea of FDR. Despised him. So we moved to Scott County, MS. You could not find three Republicans in the whole county. Except us. And mama made it very clear to me that we were to keep our political inclinations to ourselves!

Robert, I heard this from one of my college professors about FDR. In the late 1930's a nicely dressed man who walked to work in New York always stopped at the same news paper stand every morning, bought a paper, looked at front page, then turned and threw the paper in the trash can. One day the stand owner asked him why did he buy a paper if he never read it? the man replied:"I'm looking for an obituary". The owner told he never looked at the back where the obituaries were. The man replied "The crook I'm looking for will be on the front Page".

You are absolutely right, Robert. When we were kids the Solid South was demo all the way. That began to change in 1948 at the demo nat'l. convention, when the Dixiecrats walked out of that convention over the civil rights plank of the demo platform. By 1960 it was picking up steam, and for the last 20 years or so its become the Solid
South for the Republicans.

Of course, EVERYBODY (actually it was ‘just about’ everybody) was a Democrat in 1948. Since 1948 the Democrat Party has left the common people of Scott County and the whole United States. The Dems left the common people; the common people did not leave the Democrat Party.

Today, if anyone LIKES the Democrat Party, they are really going to LOVE Barak Obama and Nancy Pelosi.

I don’t even try (nor would I even want) to tell others how to vote (they would not listen, anyway) but if the United States is to survive, the Democrats needs to be defeated at all levels………local, state and federal.

I don’t vote Democrat even at the local level because little (local) Dems grow-up to be big (federal) Dems……….and federal Dems ALWAYS vote as Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi TELLS them to vote.
