Above my reference to living in Lamar is because it sits against Forrest Co. In fact, Hattiesburg has annexed part of Lamar Co. Also, Lamar Co. is named for L.Q.C. Lamar was one of five gentlemen who meeting with Jefferson Davis in Jackson the week of the Secession Convention December 1860. In that meeting those six men determined that Mississippi would secede from the union. So...begs the question in this age of so-called political correctness... the name of Lamar Co. has not been a point of loud protest (over nothing).
