The Packers have been incredibly lucky in drafting and developing WR’s.
At different times one of the best.
Fans and most media have been saying WHY haven’t they taken a WR in the first? For the last few years Rodgers was QB that grew to a constant talking point they have to take a WR in the first.
From the Athletic 63% of first round wide receivers never live up to the pick or bust.
They haven’t taken a #1 round WR since 2002 and the team has done pretty well since.
And the other thing you need to look at is where the Packers pick the vast majority of the time since 2002.
Here’s a list of WR’s taken in the draft.

As for Watson I’d still pound the table I wanted to draft him with the second first round pick.
And they traded back in to 34?
I have no doubt he is one of the most talented WR ‘s in the NFL.
The head trainer was fired after his hamstring issues..
And it just bad luck for any player to be injured.
And it’s a damn shame fans blame players for injuries.
For some it is warranted but so few.
These players are doing everything they can to get drafted, make a team and play in the NFL and so few actually get a second contract.
Where the Packers have picked for decades that top WR talent is gone .
Compare the NFL leaders in receiving to their draft spot.

How many of those picks have 100 catches 1000 yards and double digit TD’s?
So the we need to draft a 1st round WR is a good idea if a player warrants it.
But not because the talking heads or fans have been saying it for years. The Packers drafting record at the position has been quite good.
The Packers needs, match up well with options at multiple positions could it be WR at 23? Sure could. And it could be DE,DT, CB and them all with the same ranking.
I like the Player grades from NFL scouting reports.
