I think you're kidding yourself if you really believe that Green Bay's players by and large are really all that different from most other teams in the league.
We all have our threshold of what we're willing to tolerate for entertainment - how much we're willing to separate the performance from the person. This isn't just limited to the sporting world - it applies to Hollywood movies/actors, and many other areas of life.
If you're not willing to accept the reality that there is at least one bad apple on your team without getting this upset about it, then I'd suggest that may sports fandom really isn't for you. There is ALWAYS at least one. And it's been this way since the beginning. It's just that many times, we don't hear about it until after the fact. But just because we don't hear about it, doesn't mean it's not going on.
And if anyone says "Lombardi would have done x, y and z"... I'll counter with two simple words:
Paul Hornung
And also, he not only allowed Max McGee to get away with a lot, he also PUT HIM IN THE FREAKING SUPER BOWL after one of those all-night escapades. So he wasn't as much of a hard-ass as the myth makes him out to be either.
Bottom line for me: I don't know exactly what happened. I wasn't there. But those that 'should' know (prosecutors, etc.) have agreed and settled on what the appropriate penalties for Jacobs were. In my book, that's case closed. Once those penalties are paid in full, then he has 'paid his debt to society' and it's not for me (or anyone else) to hold that over him for the rest of his life.
