Rob, Have you tried Y. Thompsoniana? They are a little hardier than rostrata but will bloom at an earlier age and usually begin to brach after flowering. They seem to be a little slower growing too though. Have you considered growing a rostrata in a large pot and placing it out each year and bringing it inside for the winter? I have 3 big rostratas and a big Thompsoniana that I have been growing in pots for years, just because I was anticipating moving and now just because I need to clear a few trees where I plan to put in a big raised bed, but they seem to be doing fine, although their growth is very slow in pots. Just something to consider. |
