Re: Reflections of the 1972 Forest High School Band
I remember in 8th grade we were playing a "recital" piece at the high school auditorium. I think the song was called "The Harmonica Player" or something like that. Anyway there's a quiet spot at a few places in the song where percussion strikes a triangle once and the band goes back to playing. We had a trombone player sitting about last chair (won't mention a name), who somehow managed to "blat" out a note on his T-Bone when that triangle "dinged". The rest of us got to laughing (trombones) and I remember Larry Rigby looking at us real hard from his podium. Well we got back in the groove and on the refrain, darned if the guy didn't do it again during that quiet spot. Dr Rigby was looking at us again like he was pleading for us to get back in gear quick because the trombones had a small 3 note ending in unison at the end of the song. Well we quit giggling long enough to do those 3 notes and I could see the relief wash over Dr. Rigby's face, as we took a bow before the clapping parents and exited the stage.
