(Butch): Good times…good times…
Butch continues to watch and listen and eventually comes to the back-and-forth between Vanessa Lang and Lyntoria Evans. He watches with keen intent before Ronnie's partner makes her final comment and the promo finishes. Butch lounges back in the black leather reclining chair, bringing his left leg, so that the sole of his foot is resting on the base of the seat and he rests his elbow atop it, thinking to himself.
After a couple of minutes of silence, Butch sets up the Macbook to post a reply and when the built-in webcam turns red to signal it is now recording, Butch begins to speak.
(Butch): Greetings Ms Evans; I don't believe we have been introduced yet. I'm Butch Parker, someone who your man Ronnie is very familiar with. I couldn't help but notice your little tit-for-tat that you've been having with Vanessa and I won't lie when I say that it perked my ears up. Now bear with me on this because some of the things I'm about to say you probably won't like but you, well more importantly, Ronnie, needs to hear it, because believe me when I say I know what I'm talking about.
You and Vanessa can go back and forth until the cows home about how much both Ronnie and Hans have done for charity, their work ethic in and out of the ring, who they've faced and everything else. But, unsurprisingly, I'm with Vanessa on this one. As valiant as it is that you're defending Ronnie's name like any faithful woman should, the simple fact is that Hans is World Champion because he is championship material. From day one in HWA to the moment he defeated Eddie, he was championship material. No gripes or groans, no complaints of being mistreated or having to face the same opponents week in and week out. He got on with the job. No matter the opponent, big or small, main eventer or spotlight division, title or no title, Hans has faced each opponent with the same verve and professionalism each and every time he has stepped into the ring.
Ronnie, on the other hand, is a part-time player. He moans about wanting to be the pinnacle of the wrestling world, sitting on his throne with the World Championship laid proudly over his shoulder. But he will not put the work in when it's really necessary. I think you'll find that if he were not facing Hans this week and he was facing someone like say, Maniac or Bryan Deas or any existing member of the Sons of Anarchy, his presence on the airwaves would be pretty much non-existent bar a mandatory two-minute, three-word cameo in a random, uncharacteristic meeting with his other NWO cohorts.
Ms Evans, a true champion is someone that everybody else on the roster aspires to be like, he's the centrepiece, the role model for every man, woman and child. He or she works harder than everyone else, every day of the week. When the hard workers say they're done for the day and take their sparring gloves off, the champion keeps going. When he's told he's facing an opponent, he takes it in his stride and gets on with it, he doesn't complain to management that things aren't fair, that he's not getting his fair bite of the cherry. He gets his head down, laces his boots tighter and fights for his place.
Your husband or boyfriend or whatever Ronnie is to you, he's a phenomenal athlete Toya, so please do not misinterpret my opinions for discounting his in-ring ability. Ronnie is wrestling machine….when he wants to be. I'll confess myself, before the match we had last month, I heard not a peep from him but the minute he found out he was facing me, I couldn't shut him up. And I'm not just telling you this Toya; this is directed towards Ronnie aswell.
There have been endless complaints about Hans' lottery but I can't help but point my finger at three select individuals who have, so far, been the only ones to criticize it and those individuals are Eddie K, I refuse to call him Eddie Phoenix because well, it's just stupid, anyway, Talon Wilkinson and of course, Ronnie McNeil. Wait a minute….they're all apart of the NWO!
A sarcastic shocked expression paints its way across Butch's face.
(Butch): Wow, I never saw that one coming! The NWO crying and whining about something that doesn't directly involve them or that has them temporarily shunned from the public eye? Dear God! It’s a scandal!
Butch smirks before adopting a more serious tone.
(Butch): Despite the Buff Brigade's many grievances regarding it, Hans' lottery has been nothing but unbiased and unfair and like it or not, disregarding the level of opponents he has faced, Hans has still faced every challenge head-on, like a man and has given everybody on the roster a fair shot at achieving World Championship glory. What's more, much to my delight, he put Talon Wilkinson in his place, now is that not a resonating signal of Hans' dominance as World Champion, Ms Evans? Would you have said any different if the first man he had faced had been me? And then second man Talon, the third Ronnie, the fourth Eddie, and the fifth Logan and so on and so forth? Would you be singing the same tune then? I somehow doubt it. Like it or not, Ms Evans, Hans' reign has been by far the most successful for quite a number of years, going back to before I last held it in 2008 and that leaves a very bitter taste in Ronnie's mouth doesn't it? Well that's just too damn bad.
Ronnie has the chance to win the HWA World Championship at the Other Side, Toya, and in the unlikely scenario that he does indeed win it and win it fairly, I'll tip my hat to him and eat humble pie, but will he still have the strap this time six months from now? My money's on no. But will he be so gracious when Hans retains his championship crown and continues to cement his name as one of the HWA's all-time greats? Again, my money's on no.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some training to do. A pleasure to make your acquaintance Ms Evans, tell Ronnie good luck for me.
Butch posts his response and shuts down the Macbook, and makes a beeline for the gym again, as the scene fades to black.
