Re: mama"
If you pay online..all the calculations are automatically done electronically for you...you don't have to balance a checkbook like we had to do in the past. For instance, my SS is automatically deposited to a joint account I had with my husband. I no longer use the account so I have it transferred once a month to my current checking account. There have been increases in my SS since I set it up originally but I didn't change the transfer amount so the difference accumulates each month. When it's a couple of hundred dollars, I either transfer it to the checking account if its needed or to my savings account. All my reoccurring bill accounts are already there so when a bill comes in I type in the dollar amount I owe and push a button and the amount is automatically deducted from my balance. I don't use much cash and pay everything I can with one credit card that is paid in full every month so there is no charge for using it. In fact, I get 1 percent back on what I spend, sometimes more. My budget allows for a certain amount each month that I can afford to pay and I can check within 24 hours how much I owe. If its getting higher than I'd like, I'll pare down what I shop for to necessities. When I need to buy a big ticket item like a refrigerator etc. I look for deals where I have six months to pay without interest using the store's account. I pay it off within the six months..so no extra charges. I'll only pull enough cash for myself for things where I can't easily use the card, parking meters and things like that. If all your accounts are in one bank or affiliated with them..including a bank credit card, information on each of them will be on the one statement so you can get your entire financial picture at a glance. Stocks and bonds with other institutions would have to be followed separately..they usually send statements quarterly (every three months). Have RR show you how to get into your online bank accounts especially those used for bill paying, don't do anything, just familiarize yourself with them and what links you need to use to get the information or pay a bill. It is very important that you spend the time and understand and learn now rather than later. Your dyscalculia problem doesn't interfere with your researching the Internet and it shouldn't interfere with what you may have to do yourself at some point.
