That's something else I have to look at - the basic monthly bills for necessities such as electric, phone, Internet, water, Ins. Property taxes and food. We sold the last MC and the GMC Savannah van so no more bills for them. But the TT we've used to snow-bird is sitting here and for the first time we're really having a problem selling an RV.
Fortunately living here in TN is cheap as far as Ins and Taxes. My SS is a little less than half of his. He gets the max amount but less had he continued to work to age 65. He retired at 62 with some serious burnout and health issues starting.
What you describe above, how you handled your bills after Frank passed away was pretty much what I did when I lived up here alone. The only difference was someone helped me keep the checkbook balanced (no PCs in those days) and made sure I always put enough in the checking account each month so as not to overdraw.
