The Good News Singers from Forest United Methodist Church
I was thinking of some other memories of Forest the other day. I was part of a group called "The Good News Singers" from Forest United Methodist Church. We started out as a youth Choir under the leadership of Director Rev Jimmy Dabbs about 1971 or 1972. We performed a musical called "He Is Alive" as we basically "karaoked" to an album and sang at different churches in Mississippi and Louisiana. You know how girls always mature (get taller) faster then boys? I'm standing next to classmate Kaye Chadwick on the back row in the picture and seem to be extremely short! You'll notice many names in the choir that some of the people here will remember. By '73 - '74, we upgraded and had people play our own music instead of using a record. The picture below is some of the choir. Out of 35 members, I only see about 26, so some of us must not have got the memo. Not unusual for me as I tend to miss picture sessions quite often. Lets see how my memory is .... front row - Chip Gulbro, Lori Red, David Mitchell 2nd row - Marsha Ruth Carlton, Oleta Mayo, Sarah Henry, Bitsy Halford, Kaye Chadwick, Phyllis Greener, Cathy Crosby?, hard to see the one on the end, could be one of the Colbert sisters. 3rd row - not sure about the guitar player, Terri Sessions (I believe Lu Ann Gould's cousin) Lisa Lane, Diane OBannon, Gina Lackey, Rowanna Pope, Chad Halford, Kim Red, Francis Halford, Linda Thomas, not sure about the next one, then Rhett Mitchell. Only one I recognize on the back row is John Fairley. It was almost 50 years ago, so I didn't do too bad. I wish a few of them were on this site so we could touch base again.
